      Introduction to oily skin and breakouts and how to better control symptoms

      Oily skin is due to the over production of sebum or oil by the sebaceous gland which is responsible for oil production within the skin. Sebum is necessary for the skin to function normally as it plays a vital role in skin barrier protection.

      Severe sebum secretions often take place on the T-zone (nose, forehead and chin) which may result in clogged and enlarged pores along with unwanted oiliness in thicker skins. This can easily be resolved with a correct cleansing and hydrating routine, remembering that overzealous exfoliation can stimulate the glands which will intensify the sebum secretions.

      Breakout concerns may be exacerbated by the overproduction of sebum in combination with redundant skin cell build-up. This leads to the creation of clogged pores resulting in the inflammation along with blackheads, whiteheads, papules and pustules.

      Enlarged pores are often associated with an oily prone skin type. These pores can have a more visible appearance when incorrect product protocols are adhered to. The key in improving enlarged pores is to keep your pores clean from surface impurities and a build-up of dead skin cells which may block your pores creating blackheads. Look for products that offer you deep cleansing benefits and ensure to exfoliate your skin regularly to prevent dead skin cell build-up.

      After your cleansing routine, apply DermaFix ACC Vitamin C followed by the application of DermaFix Vitamin B Cream to assist with the control of oil gland secretions. DermaFix ACC Hyaluronic Gel can be added for the relief of dryness or dehydration without contributing to sebum secretions.

      Protect your skin from the sun’s harmful UVA/UVB rays with DermaFix DermaShield SPF45 High Protection UVA/UVB sunscreen, with Zinc Oxide in an oil-free, non-greasy formulation.

      Optional: for the control of large congested pores DermaFix Mattifying Pore Minimizer may be added to your evening routine as a fast-acting SOS treatment and deep cleansing masque. This can be applied to the area of concern and left on for 10-20 minutes. Once the skin tolerance has been achieved you may sleep with it on overnight. DermaFix Clari-Fine Clay Masque used twice a week for the skin refinement assisting to deep cleanse the skin and offer oil control.

      Once an established DermaFix skincare routine has been obtained MD Prescriptives Acne Solutions can be incorporated into your routine as an evening moisturiser and DermaFix Vitamin B Cream as your moisturiser for morning use. These two products are not to be applied to the same application.
