    Zinc Oxide: A physical, inorganic mineral compound which reflects, scatters, and absorbs UV radiation to 380nm. Zinc Oxide has been used topically for centuries as a skin protectant and for wound healing in many formulas. Zinc Oxide absorbs, rather than scatters most UVA rays (titanium dioxide primarily scatters). Therefore, ultra-fine, transparent zinc oxide (Z-Cote®) closes the window in the UVA range. Its protective abilities cover UVB and a majority of UVA radiation. Zinc Oxide may be the most used topical protection of all time.
